We stood and watched him pass beyond the horizon. And as we tried to say goodbye, the tears streamed down our faces, and the bunnies at the Rainbow Bridge cried in exhultation, "Look!!! Here he comes!!! binky binky"
There is a bridge connecting heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. The play all day with each other.
There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up. The nose twitches. The ears are up. The eyes are staring. And this one suddenly runs from the group.
You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.
To all of my bunny friends who have let me love you and have gone on to wait for the rest of us at the Rainbow Bridge
I wish you fields of Timothy Hay
and carrots young and tender.
Streams of sparkling cold water.
Beds of soft grass and dirt
and butterflies to chase
and spearmint to taste.
I wish you warm spring days
and soft autumn snows to binkie in.
Cardboard boxes filled with
nothing but love.
Branches for chewing
Parsleys for tasting
and puppies with noses to kiss.
To see your pretty face once more
And reminisce with you,
To hold you in my arms once more
And spend the day with you,
To tell you how I miss you so
And long to have you stay
To tell you how I'll love you so
Tomorrow and today
You're always on my mind
Your sparkling eyes I see-
I know that I will never find
Another you and me.
"If tears would have kept you
You would still be here.
If tears would bring you back
You would have been home yesterday."
"Grieve not, nor speak to me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me as if I were
beside you. I loved you so - 'twas Heaven
here with you."
We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan...
When I was One,
I had just begun.
When I was Two,
I was nearly new.
When I was Three,
I was hardly me.
When I was Four,
I was not much more.
When I was Five,
I was just alive.
But now I am Six, I'm as clever as clever.
So I think I'll be six now for ever and ever.
Please don't say "I'm sorry"
When the tears roll down your face.
To show your pain and anguish
To me is no disgrace.
I've felt the love you lost
And know how deep you sorrow,
But trust me, you'll feel better
If not today, perhaps tomorrow
With time, fond memories will ease
The aching in your heart.
I know it's hard to smile right now
But one day you will start...
And then, you will remember
And speak with laughter in your voice.
From a new home in the sky
Your "lost" pet will rejoice.
Sorrow is not forever- love is.
When a pet dies,
that special, warm place in our hearts
suddenly becomes empty...
and, as in all painful events,
it will take time to get over the loss...
But we realize, as time passes,
that animals have a way
of teaching us about loving,
about loyalty, joy, and friendship...
And whatever we've shared in their presence
can never really be lost.
Silence.
Not a sound.
No branch snapped.
No wave lapped.
No leaf stirred.
Then off went the Rabbit through
the soft dark night of the green grass
forest, over the soft green grass. You
could hardly hear him.
Hippety hop
Hippety hop
Hippety hop
Thud!
The Rabbit bumped into another
Rabbit who was running softly about
the forest at sundown on his four fur
feet, telling all the animals to go to
sleep.
Go to sleep Rabbit
Go to sleep Rabbit
Go to sleep
Go to sleep
to sleep
to sleep
sleep
sleep
